ABERRATION (2014), is a short experimental film I created with the intent to test the concept of disharmony, chromaticism, and unison, and how I could progressively apply these concepts in order to warp a harmonious image into something that is uncontrolled and chaotic. It is predominantly inspired by various German Expressionist films, such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), which had the tendency to explore the darker elements of the human psyche, as well as invoke feelings of unease as a result of being visually abstract. In order to express this idea, I chose the most harmonious image I could think of, a single white circle, and over the span of two minutes, progressively distorted it until it reached a moment of maximum chaos that is unsettling, and the antithesis to the original circle which had first graced the screen.
The animation was created using After Effects CS6, as well as various plugins.
The audio track was created using Image Line's Harmor, a powerful additive/subtractive/image synthesizer, as well as various recordings of violent weather and wailing animals that were pitched down.
